All the ingredients you need to make this Bruschetta
  • Step 1: Cut the tomatoes into small bit size pieces. I used red and yellow cherry tomatoes from my garden to give this dish a colorful presentation.
  • Step 2: Cut the basil into small slices. I used green and purple basil from my garden to really bump up the color palette of the dish.
  • Step 3: Mix together the tomatoes and basil with a few swirls of olive oil, salt and pepper.
  • Step 4: Slice the French bread into even slices.
  • Step 5: Lay the sliced bread on a baking sheet and broil in the oven until the tops become brown.
  • Step 6: Rub the cut side of fresh garlic to the tops of the browned toast.
  • Step 7: Spoon the tomato/basil mixture over the toasts.

Great recipe! Approximately how long will the bread be under the broiler? Thanks!

Good question. The cooking time will depend on how close your bread is to the broiler coil, and the intensity of the heat of your oven. It usually takes me about 5 minutes. My advice is to watch it closely. Walk away and you will have burnt toast!
